Kirby Rees

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Children (Ages 3–10) · Specific Learning Disorders · ADHD · Anxiety · Emotional Regulation · Executive Functioning · School-Related Concerns

Kirby is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who works with children and their families. Before becoming a psychologist, she spent more than a decade as an elementary school teacher, an experience that continues to shape the way she understands children.

Kirby has a special interest in supporting children with Specific Learning Disorders. She understands the challenges children face when the way they learn doesn't match the way they're expected to learn, and she is passionate about helping them discover their strengths while developing the skills they need to thrive. Her years in the classroom have given her a unique perspective on the connection between learning and mental health. She understands the academic, emotional, and social demands children face and enjoys partnering with parents, teachers, and schools to develop practical, evidence-based strategies that support success across home, school, and everyday life.

She also supports children experiencing ADHD, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, executive functioning challenges, developmental differences, social skills and peer relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and school-related challenges.

Kirby's approach is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. She draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment-based approaches, and play-based interventions. Sessions are tailored to each child's unique strengths, interests, and developmental needs, often incorporating art, games, storytelling, and hands-on activities to help children learn new skills in ways that feel natural, engaging, and fun. She believes meaningful change happens when children feel safe, understood, and empowered, and when parents feel supported throughout the process.

Above all, Kirby hopes every child leaves therapy with a greater understanding of themselves, confidence in their abilities, and the belief that their challenges do not define who they are.
