And if the results don't point to a specific diagnosis, we'll tell you that just as clearly, and explain what does seem to be going on instead. A diagnosis is never the goal for its own sake — the goal is understanding how your child learns. Sometimes that means a diagnosis; sometimes it's simply a clear map of their strengths and the gaps to work on.

A psychoeducational assessment is broader. It looks closely at how your child thinks and how they're performing academically — reading, writing, and math — to find learning disabilities, giftedness, and the reasons school is hard. An ADHD assessment is more focused on attention, activity, and impulse control specifically.
