Danielle Nicholson
Registered Psychologist
Danielle is a Registered Psychologist who specializes in supporting children with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including obsessive/intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. As well as, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, selective mutism, and perfectionism.
Drawing from her early intervention background, Danielle is also passionate about supporting neurodivergent children and families, including those navigating ADHD, autism, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and social-emotional communication challenges. She values creating a neurodiversity-affirming space that honours each child's strengths and unique way of experiencing the world.
Danielle draws from evidence-based interventions — including CBT, ACT, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and ERP for OCD and anxiety disorders — while incorporating each child's interests, strengths, and unique personality. No matter the goal, children are welcomed into a fun, supportive environment filled with creativity, connection, and laughter.
Rather than eliminating discomfort, the goal is to build confidence in navigating it. Through a combination of child-focused intervention and parent coaching, children learn that they can tolerate uncertainty, manage distress, and take brave steps outside of their comfort zone. Parents play an important role in this process by supporting their child's growing independence and helping them face challenges with confidence.
Parent involvement is a central part of Danielle's work. She partners closely with caregivers to navigate challenges related to emotional regulation, anxiety, behavioural concerns, and family dynamics — drawing on Executive Functioning Skills Training and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy to help families develop practical strategies for setting boundaries, co-regulating through difficult moments, responding effectively to challenging behaviour, and creating opportunities for growth both at home and in the community.
Families can expect a personalized treatment plan that may include a combination of child sessions, parent sessions, and parent-child sessions, depending on their goals and needs. The focus is on supporting meaningful growth, connection and lasting change at home, school, and in the community, with sessions offered in person and online.
